Through practical service and genuine care, our Local Outreach ministries support financial needs, emotional healing, and meaningful connection within our community.
Faith in Action Through Service
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is a long-standing outreach that provides free, trusted tax preparation services to individuals and families in the community. This ministry helps reduce financial stress by ensuring access to accurate, confidential tax assistance for those who may not otherwise be able to afford professional services. For more than 24 years, VITA has served residents from 28 different communities, offering support each tax season from February through April. VITA is a practical expression of faith in action—meeting real, everyday needs while offering dignity, care, and excellence.
Grief Share
Grief Share is a supportive outreach ministry created for individuals who are navigating the loss of a loved one. It provides a safe, compassionate space where participants can process grief, find healing, and gain practical tools for moving forward with hope. This in-person class meets once a week and is open to the broader community and welcomes participants from other churches, making it a meaningful outreach beyond our congregation. In addition to supporting those experiencing loss, the ministry equips participants with insights and resources they can share with others who are walking through grief. Rooted in empathy, understanding, and faith-based healing,
The Connection Ministry
The Connection Ministry exists to ensure that every visitor feels welcomed, valued, and personally acknowledged from the moment they connect with Waukegan Community Church. Launched as a 100% self-funded ministry, the team prepares to serve over 200 visitors each year by providing thoughtful welcome materials such as bags, cups, letters, and gift cards. Through the Connection Card system, more than 150 visitors annually receive personal follow-up, including a thank-you letter and a text message. The Connection Ministry plays a vital role in building relationships, fostering belonging, and helping guests transition into a thriving church community.
Each One Reach One
Each One Reach One is a relational outreach ministry centered on personal connection, intentional invitation, and everyday discipleship. This ministry encourages individuals to share their faith naturally within their own circles—family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances—by building genuine relationships rooted in care and authenticity. Through simple acts of invitation and consistent encouragement, Each One Reach One helps bridge the gap between church and community. It reinforces the belief that everyone has a role in outreach and that meaningful impact often begins one relationship at a time.
