So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Genesis 1:27, KJV).
How do you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror? Do you like what you see? Do you take the time admire and appreciate all that you see before you? If you look pass the scares, the lines, the color of your skin, your beautiful curves and more, do you love who you are and what you have become? The person reflecting back at you in the mirror—what does that person represent to you. Do you value her, do you tell her, “you got this” do you build up her confidence when she is feeling down?
Dictionary.com definition of beauty is, “the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).”
But how many of us today really look and believe that our internal qualities make us beautiful.
Social media platforms have presented so many with a culture and mindset of examples of images of what, “real beauty is supposed to look like. It has become the norm for so many to expect and be told, how we are supposed to look in our clothes, and even the type of products to buy to transform yourself into someone that you are not.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. (Psalm 139:14).
Let’s get real here for a second, as human beings we are not perfect. We were created as a reflection of God’s divine beauty and creation. We absolutely were not made to use filters to fix ourselves to look the perfect part at all times or to not acknowledge the fact that we have insecurities, have ups and downs and are vulnerable. Yet, we are taught to hide what are perceived as, “flaws” and to find a solution to fix them by looking to others who are deemed the, “experts” in how we should look.
We were created for so much more than filters and fixing our flaws. We are sons and daughters of the King of kings who says we are fearfully and wonderfully made just as we are.
Jesus paints a perfect picture in the Bible of what true beauty is. He describes how we are each intricately made and created to be like no one else. We are unique and valuable in our own individual ways. What we are made of and who we are is personalized to each of us. We are called to a purpose that is higher than this world’s standard and is designed just for us.
We can spend our whole lives trying to be like others, but why would we? The Creator of the universe made you in His perfect image. We were individually sculpted and molded by the Savior of the world, and what could be more beautiful than that?
You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you (Songs of Solomon 4:7).
Don’t be discouraged by the world’s perceptions. Our earthly bodies and beauty weren’t made to last forever on this earth, but we will live for eternity with Christ in new and glorified bodies. Perfection, pop culture and people’s opinions won’t give us the hope and security we are all yearning for.
One day, when we are living in the presence of our Savior, the only thing we will remember and deem valuable is how He called us worthy and saw the beauty in our hearts, even when the world didn’t.
I am beautiful! You are Beautiful! We are ALL Beautiful!
