Our Vision: “Each One Reach One”

33 Years Of Ministry

Building Lives to strengthen families in Urban America has reflected Pastor Fred and Michelle Obleton’s lives for many years. While growing up in the city of Detroit, they experienced despair and hopelessness of inner-city life. Thus, their vision focuses on planting an urban evangelical church for the purpose of establishing a Bible based ministry that is urban conscious in its thrust and community oriented in its intention.
The Baptist General Conference now Converge brought this vision into reality by contacting the Obleton’s to become church planters in Illinois. After completing seminary, they relocated from Dallas, Texas to Waukegan, Illinois in August 1989. WCC had its’ first public worship on June 17, 1990, at Whittier Elementary School in Waukegan, Illinois.

The WCC family, which started out with five committed families, now has over 180 families in attendance. The target area initially centered on Waukegan, and was enlarged to accommodate more of the surrounding areas in Lake County and Kenosha, Wisconsin.
By God’s grace, WCC moved into its current location in 1996. God blessed us and allowed us to celebrate a “mortgage burning” ceremony in 2003 for our current location.

Praise God for His Faithfulness. We are grateful and appreciative of the WCC Family and all the supporters, past and present, who have made this ministry possible. May the Lord be with you and keep you.
